As a result of advice received about my Plastimo 2050 cooker, I have established that I either need to change many of the parts on it (£200 or so) or buy a German spec butane regulator (50mbar version) at £10 or so - I think I will try the latter route. Can anyone out there direct me to a Gereman chandlery which might supply such an item to me via mail order.
Thanks - Rick

50 mB stands for 50 milliBar, that is the pressure that comes out of the "Druckminderer" no matter how is coming out of the gas bottle.

Druckminderer stands for pressure reducer, which is exactly what the gadget is for. You could also try Compass, because they are german and most likely have the gadget you are looking for.

Sounds like you just need a normal standard Propane regulator ( i.e. red/orange bottled gas ) rather than the normal UK Butane regulator ( blue bottled gas ). Should be available at any gas fitting shop.

I believe that you can use the Propane one for both Butane and Propane but must never do so the other way around. Propane is higher pressure than Butane I think. ( Someone PLEASE correct me if I am wrong ! ).

Rick,

I had the same problem with my (Germany purchased) Electrolux fridge which requires 50mB and will not work at either 28mB or 37mB. It's an (old?) German/Scandinavian standard. Yes, you can change the jets, but that's a real hassle.

I was quite unable to source on the net, and even CalorMarine told me they knew of no source, but a kind formurite brought me one back from Germany when he was travelling through. I believe they are becoming quite difficult to find even there. If you PM me, I'll pass on the message in case he is able to help with supplier.

There are variable regulators made....

I was sold one in error for my gas barbecue as a variable flame device. they do look very much alike but one adjusts the diaphragm's movement and the other alters the flow after the pressure limiting diaphragh .

I bought it from the chandlers in Gouvia Marina Corfu and it had stops marked at 28, 37 and 50 mb.

I would imagine that gas regulations make such a device illegal in the UK.

Re: There are variable regulators made....

That sounds a very sensible device! You can in fact still get continuously variable regulators to fit directly to a propane POL connector (intended for brazing torch type applications). A very long time ago if you prised off the centre logo disk you would often find an adjustment screw (as on the mains incoming regulator of a household supply)....but no longer.

Thank you everyone for helpful advice.
I have ordered regulator from GOK (gok_info@gmx.de) who have been very helpful. I will be back if it doesn't solve the problem.
