Gentlemen's dayboat ?

Would second Saffier but then I am biased because I imported a SC8 last year, she would fit 6 in cockpit.

I also liked the look of the Tofinou but the varnished wood put me off plus it wasn't as useful down below.
From what I've seen quite impressed with the Saffier. The 8 and the 10 both would be on my shortlist. Always admired the Tofinou as well but maybe a bit sporty and high maintenance for me.

Don't think anyone has mentioned the Mystery 30 - certainly will give good sailing performance and I suspect would have good handling and the ability to take a bit of sea. I don't think there are many around - my guess maybe 5-10 made so far. David Thomas design and when I had a Mustang 30 I remember not being able to get away from one (probably the first) on the closing stages of the Round the Island about 10 years ago and the late DT was on the stick. He's in the yellow oilies here:

DT's son Peter is MD at Cornish Crabbers.

The picture in #2 is a Saffier. The only aspect I don't like is the saildrive. Do any of the Saffier's have lifting keels?

I love the look of the Romilly, but not sure that it would give you any more space than a Hawk. I worked out some time ago that the family although they tolerate sailing, are not so keen on doing it for long periods of time and living my dream. Therefore small open boat day sailers are the way for me, and staying in nice holiday cottages with their own launch facility and/ or pier or pontoon, in lovely spaces. I go sailing when it is nice, family come too for the occassional picnic, but equally can enjoy doing something else for the day if they would rather. Looking forward to such a holiday in argyll next week.

Beneteau 27.7 might fit the bill. Lift keel, fairly big cockpit, asymmetric kite, suitable for shorthanded stuff. Good price too.
J100 would be a nice option also.
