Hi guys

Just finishing off my battery rewire and reconfig. Genset has its own small 70ah battery, and I'm wondering if it should be connected to the engines which are a common negative / ground. Genset battery is charged by the internal alternator and by a 7amp charger, so could remain isolated, but unsure about galvanic protection etc. Advice based on similar installs would be appreciated

I would think all earths are connected

Most generator battery negatives and 230v earth are joined, the 230v is also grounded to the central earthing point on the boat with the leisure batteries/engine batteries, so I think you will find they are already linked.

Thanks for the replies. I talking specifically the battery negative being grounded with other negatives. I know the earth is connected to the common ground and negative point, but wondered if the battery needed to be too..

I'll be guessing yes, just wanted it confirming. This is a new battery install as it used to run of the house battery.
