How long should a UV strip last in UK waters? I took my genoa in for washing and servicing and although I had not noticed anything wrong the sailmakers reckon the UV strip needs replacing. It is 6 years old, on the boat from March to November each year.

A lot longer than that I would hope. Took mine off two years ago as it was starting to rip. The sail was around 12 years old. I didn't bother replacing it as I thought the money will be better spent on a new sail when the time comes.

Depends on whether it's a woven polyester or a Sunbrella type fabric. The former don't last as long.

I believe 5 years is about right for polyester whereas the Sunbrella types will last longer.

Sunbrella (or similar) after 10 years (Wales) got hard and brittle, broke like glass when the sail was finally taken of roller and folded.
But it was lowered to change the strip, so just right time :D
