Genoa sheet knots

Re: What\'s wrong with a shackle?

Another problem with snap shackles, such as many people, including me, have on some halyards, if used for headsail sheets, is that they will open if the sail flogs for long enough. You would not think it possible until you see it happen - but it does! The "g" forces generated at the clew of a flogging headsail must be quite large - large enough to override the spring in the snap shackle.

Re: What\'s wrong with a shackle?

I've had this problem with "el cheapo" snaps on Spinnaker sheets and guys. I have been wondering if the phenomenally expensive ones might be better - I just don't want to extend my mortgage to buy a couple
