Generators - Fischer Panda v Onan

Not Sure Jimmy, but having raised some doubt, I will check this weekend if I remember... /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I was not trying to to correct anyone above, it must be a different model. The next time you're down our way I'll show you it working and driving hard, you'll hear little because it's well silenced and the revs remain constant.

As mentioned above. for a small unit, I think they're great and it performs nothing like the Kipor style mini units. The installtion is the same as the larger Onan's as on the larger med style units but it's just smaller.

Forget Recycled air cond. but you can run a 1500watt kettle, fridges, immersion, fan heater and if you push it, the 'hairdryer' too! (although I would recommend turning down the fan heater if the hairdryer's on) /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Roger, given that we've met many times... in what sense did you think I'd need a hairdryer?? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

PS We're going to be on Hayling this weekend so I'll give you a call when we're around

Jimmy TB is referring to a variable speed (his words) genset with a sine wave inverter.

Sorry missed that bit. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

The model shown in Jimmy's link looks similar but only because it's inside the sound proofing box, the control panel is different, but I'm gonna check now. Your description on initial reply sounds spot-on to me and in that instance I would tend avoid the F/panda variomatic too.

Ps. We should be around so just shout when you're nearby.

Dont forget Paguro, I have no experience with the others tho, but its quiet and relaible and doesnt rev up under load

The FP I have is the 4kw, must be an older version, coz mine doesnt rev up etc. This one has been very reliable, although my next genny will be a 1500 rpm one, maybe 6kw, as I think the smallest 1500 rpm one is about that output.

but if yours is a constant revver it must be a different model?

This reply was for you really as I saw Jimmy at the weekend. The FP I have is a constant revver @ 3,000 rpm. for 50Hz 240v. The model is 4500SC, at installation they can be set to 3,600 rpm for 110v 60Hz if required.

So, of course you were dead right. I too would probably go for Onan if I needed something larger but for my size of boat the F/Panda 4500 weighs in at 120Kgs which I think is plenty and the power generated is quite sufficient for our needs.

Hope that clears up any confusion. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Goodo, all clear.

The FP revs higher than Onan (3000rpm vs 2400) and is lighter. That figures, cos, all other things being equal, you get more power from an engine if you increase rpm. So FP have fitted a physically smaller/lighter engine and revved it higher

It therefore comes down to a choice of whether a buyer wants minimum weight and is happy with the higher rpm (buy a FP) or doesn't care about weight so might as well have the lower revs/lower wear and tear and possibly nicer noise (buy the Onan). It's good to have the choice!
