Help does anybody know of a company or someone that services portable generators ? I have contacted almost every option in the northern hemisphere and can’t find anybody that services generators the generator in particular is a Hyundai I’ve been onto the main dealers that happens to be in Wales absolutely deplorable customer service they have no registered servicing agents in the whole of London or Surrey etc and in so many words they say it’s your problem get on with it we just sell them !!! So any help would be much appreciated .

Change the oil, spark plug and air filter; that's a service. The cost of a round of drinks on some tools if you don't have them and learn a new skill. Try your local agricultural engineer, independent plant hire or lawnmower maintainer if not, it's just a small industrial engine with an alternator attached and a competent spanner twirler can do it with their eyes closed.

Thank you for your reply Penfold but the main problem with the generator although it’s only approximately 18 months old hardly used it’s pulsing sounds like a motorbike intermittently revving so I think it’s more than just a simple change your voice to spark plugs etc worst luck so I need someone who knows about this problem do you look at it for me ?

That's a warranty issue surely?

Warranty issue yes but the problem is you have to send the generator at your own expense to Wales and when they examine it if they find it hasn’t been serviced ! And as there are no bonafide Hyundai dealers that service generators in the London Surrey Kent area As I say you have to send the generator back down to Wales at your own expense and then you have to pay for any parts labour transport there and back it’s a joke honestly all I want to do is find someone who can resolve the pulsing problem preferably within the M25 area ?

As penfold says it is a small 1 cylinder petrol engine. If the engine is pulsing it sounds like dirty fuel. Change for e5 clean fuel. wash out the carburettor with carb cleaner and start again. Forget what the name on the badge says when the covers come off it is an engine. I would have thought any decent garden mower repair shop could do it.

Hi Big Bad John I’ve got the feeling there’s A bit more to it than meets the eye I’ve been on YouTube and looking at some of the videos explaining just how to do it for sure it’s something I wouldn’t like to try myself dismantling the generator and cleaning out valves with wire looks very tricky to me, and with my track record of fixing things it’s bound to turn out disaster that’s why I’d like to find a professional or someone that knows what they’re doing they’re doing Just to be on the safe side

Not your generator but the principal is the same. Change the old fuel out and get your self some E5. Go to a Shell garage and buy super unleaded. Flush out and use some carb cleaner.

If you were this side of the world I would try Does of Ulting.
Alternatively, a decent sized lawn mower repair company.
They would know how to service small engines. However, the generation part may prove awkward & they may just charge for a direct replacement.
So at the end of the day you might ask how much it cost you & weigh that against the cost of repair inc transport etc. Then you might bite the bullet, dump it & buy new
A frame generator is not actually so expensive.

Sounds to me like the carb jets are fouled so the governor won't function properly. Likely caused by standing idle for a long time. A good clean of the carb should cure that - why not give it a try?

Definition of Mechanical maintenance: dismantle, clean, inspect for wear or failure, repair or replace worn / failed parts, reassemble, test, return to service.
Holness rule of boat maintenance: most problems aren't as bad as they seem at first.

Peter.

I’m afraid I would require a qualified generator service mechanic to look at my generator or at least someone that knows what they’re doing ? I am afraid if I take a screwdriver or a spanner or anything, it’s never the same again I would just like to find the right person to check my generator for me , I feel there must be someone somewhere that Services generators, but they are very elusive to say the least .

What about a honda dealer who supplies honda generators. Another option is a garden machinery place as some lawn mowers have a constant speed regulator.

Hi it’s aHyndi 2000 HI inveterater generator and it’s about 18 months to 2 years old. It’s Problem is lack of use?

I had a similar pulsing problem with my Honda EU20 2kw portable generator. After thoroughly stripping & cleaning the carb it was resolved.
Someone who services Honda gensets could probably look at it for you, or even an outboard motor service centre.
