Had a slightly alarming few minutes this morning where we could hear water literally pouring into the bilges - on our mooring!

Quickly traced it back to a split raw water hose on our Fischer Panda generator (running at the time). Seacock shut and offending item removed (absolute pig to get to, can’t wait to get the new one back on!). None of my local chandlers had a direct replacement and it got me thinking; why was an exhaust hose used given that it came right off the impeller? Could I replace with regular reinforced hose instead?

I can only think that this hose was used because the unit gets pretty hot inside it’s housing? Or am I thinking nonsense?

Good that you got it done before the situation became worse! I can't imagine why an exhaust hose would have any place there with regards to temperature, as it's cooled by being a raw water intake hose!
Possibly the hose was conveniently to hand during fitting?

You need re enforced hose for suction applications, exhaust hose is commonly used where fire retardant properties are also required especially in larger sizes

Asap sell a water intake hose which is ideal for the purpose. Vetus also have a similar product both are cheaper and more flexible than exhaust hose.

Odd, what size is it, what length is inside the fp casing and how old is this hose?
So goes from seacock to raw water pump? Would also change it with normal clear reinforced hose.
