Generator in Lazarette

We have recently had a Vetus 4kva generator fitted in the lazarette on our Sealine 420, The unit is in its own acoustic box but I want to try and reduce the noise further. As it is such a large lazarette it would be quite a big job to apply sound proofing, There is quite a bit of room around the unit so I was thinking of having an insulated box made to cover the unit. Do you think this would be effective?

well when we put some on the engines of an Oyster OM43, the owner rang straight after his first trip to get one put on his generator......

Often generators have closed cell foam in the cowl which is not acoustic foam, so there's lots to be gained quite easily.

Maybe you can fit a water separator in the exhaust, after the normal waterlock. Then the coolingwater exits the boat thru the hull under water and the exhaust gas just above the waterline so you have almost no exhaust sound left!

try adding the engine room type of foam sandwich to the laz lid.


I got help from Haliyard who sold me some self adhesive stuff - a little unsure how effective it is as mine is very quiet anyway and zero exhaust noise.
