Both painting and re-gelcoating have there pro's and con's and both will produce excellent results. I have seen examples of both carried out at Hayling Yacht Company and would recomend both. As everyone says the gelcoat will always be tougher than any paint system. If you decide to go down the gelcoating route it will almost certainly be more expensive than painting. If you go for Awlgrip just remember whilst the G-line is harder and preferable it does not allow repairs to be carried out as easily in the future. The thing you have to consider more than anything is how much do you want to spend? and bare in mind single packs like toplac are the softest of all paints. Good Luck.
