We've got a few little dings and scratches in the unpainted gelcoat up top, and would like to get her all smooth and non-holey, so have some 2-part gel coat filler. However, Santa Teresa's topsides are a sort of dirtyish off-white. Very off-white. Attractive, eh? Anyway, we have filler, which is pure, startling white, and I was wondering whether these filler tints are any cop - woud rather me old lady didn't look like she's got chicken pox and covered herself in blotches of calamine lotion. Saw some off-white tints in the chandles yesterday and quite fancy trying it.

Any good? Or any other suggestions? Oh, and painting the whole topsides is not an option...

Cheers all.

Very difficult to get an exact match. Trial and error, and even when you get it right it will fade at a different rate to the rest of the hull so shows up after a year or two. I've had reasonable results on a previous boat, but could point out where I'd done the repairs a couple of years later.

I have just bought some tint etc. Havn't tried it yet, but the guy in Alladins Cave said it'll dry slightly darker

Rub the gel coat down lightly, which will no doubt show up rather whiter. Try and match that colour rather than the un-rubbed down colour as the repair will fade in a few weeks. Colour matching is difficult, so you need to experiment, and you need VERY little tint.
