Gearbox dipstick nut spinning

True .... although I don't really see what that is any ruder than the "No. Stick to photography! :)" which started it.

There was a smiley :-) , I'm sure Seajet has had worse in local politics. Sorry if he's offended. Wonder what was in the deleted post?

Probably suddenly realised how wrong he was (as is often the case!) and took time to compose a sort of admission and apology.

Acute embarrassment on my part: Northup was quite right to ask whether I was attempting to remove the breather (Fisherman's post pointed that way too). The link Northup and Vic gave to the new(er) online manual has an exploded diagram making it clear which is the dipstick nut.

In my defence the original manual I was working from was much less clear and being a non-mechanic/engineer I assumed the dipstick nut would be the much smaller, more accessible nut at the highest point of the casing. The actual dipstick nut gives the appearance, to me at least, of serving a much more substantial purpose.

So many apologies to everyone for the nuisance post and thanks for the replies: speaking selfishly, I now know how to test for, and possibly remove, a threaded nut thanks to Freebee!
