Good afternoon, does anyone know how to wire
the gear lever trim for a volvo penta 290 drive?
5 wires in total, green, blue, white, red and purple.

Red should be the feed to the switch. Green is for the down position, blue is for the up position. (green=grass, blue =sky). You should see these two colours on your two tilt and trim relays. One colour to each relay. Not sure which should be your ground but easy to check with a meter. And another one should be for your beaching, full up position. That's as much as I know.

Thanks Sogood. Don't know which contacts to solder them on to. Searched everywhere on Internet, but can't find a diagram.

Do you have a "tail" of wires coming from the controller? What type of controller is it? Are the tilt and trim functions incorporated into the controller or are they on a separate switch/switches on the dash?

Tilt and trim are on the top of handle and the wires go up through the lever.
The part number for the shift controller is 3851092. I would send a photo but cant upload.

So if you have the end of the loom showing, colour codes are as above. Can you find the two relays for the tilt and trim? Usually mounted together, near the transom beside the tilt and trim pump. Are any of these components already wired up? If so, check the colours against what you have at the lever.
