GBR Challenge pull out

Re:Fine fellows as far as it goes

Depends what your intentions were Tom. If jovial, no problem whatsoever and please take my response in the same vein.

Some background - I normally only post on things I do know about (I work professionally in the marine industry), or else are plainly part of a jestful thread. Some in UK have a hate campaign over antipodean cats knowing a thing or two and a few never seem to get over my once disagreeing with them and sometimes scratching them for misleading others with foolish advice.

I have found it quite a joke their seemingly stewing themselves up permanently over a cat who once disagreed with them and am happy to scratch from time to time to just keep them unhappy and me amused - sort of like the cat teasing the mouse which is about to be devoured /forums/images/icons/smile.gif. There again, almost all others are very friendly to cats.

So, I guess not sensitive but enjoy drawing blood perhaps. As I say, if your response was friendly take mine as being the same - some of my best friends are Englishmen and I would not want it any other way.

Re:In the 70\'s

I spent a couple of race weeks on a boat full of Kiwi's. They thought I'd be like Colonel Blimp. They found plenty of C.B's but most people they met talked bollocks and stood their round so it went quite well. They generally found the simple way to get the job done to. Most of them never went home though. Funnily enough I only know two of their names. They were all called Jonno or Grubber or one was called Farley though it had nothing to do with his given name.

Re:In the 70\'s

On the "most never went home bit" - think if I was starting out again (I am a long way past that now) I would move away from New Zealand, certainly far more opportunities and interests for younger people and a way to avoid paying back one's student loan too (altho' the Jonno's and Grubber's probably don't have those).

Have for many years done a lot of work commuting overseas though so that helps, soon learn that most places have both their good and bad points and that home is not always in the marvellous class as many like to imagine. Apart from passing through on way to/from other places have never spent any time in UK - something I must put to rights sometime.

Re:I\'m banned from

visiting NZ. My mate the Chief, who lived there for a good part of the 70's & 80's, sings it's praises as an outdoor/sailing paradise to such an extent my missus won't let me near the place.

Most of the Jonno's & Grubbers were doctors. So much in demand where ever they settled.

Your right though. If you crave, traffic jams, light pollution, crap weather, noise, dirt and crass behavior. All to a chorus of whinging and special pleading, well get you over here. Well it's not to bad on the extremities but avoid the South East & the Midlands and Slough.
