oil pressure and temp particularly. Obviously we've got gauges at the helm which is great, but I want to put a couple in the engine room as well

whats the best way of duplicating the gauges?? I'm guessing ti won't be as simple as just putting extra ones in parallel with out put from the senders....

You will need new senders and gauges that are compatable with the original ones, if its a volvo vdo gauges will be fine donnt buy cheap gauges or senders faria ones dont work with volvo senders, vdo oil and temp about £45.00 each im just doing my boat with them, the senders are in the volvo accessory book.

Why you want them in the engine room I dont know, unless you like to sit there and watch the shaft go round??? worst place ever in a rough sea and ive been there a few times recently.

You can use a changover switch if you dont want to buy new senders but thats more work.

You need to fit dual station senders that recognise 2 gauges one for the temp and one for the oil pressure, im in the process of doing my Princess 410 with volvo 62a engines, ive done quite a few for customers and all of my flybridge boats so far.
Ive had a nervous summer going up and downstairs every half hour looking at the lower helm, peace of mind next year with oil and temp gauges up there, ive used nice vdo gauges that are nearly the same as the volvo ones.

Forget all the above. Just get identical gauges to the ones fitted at the helm and fit them in the engine room wired via a simple change-over switch. You don't need to have both sets working at the same time, just switch to the ones you want to view. Cheap and easy!!!

change over switch sounds good, simple is best!

the henjin is an ford lehham 2715e, so nothing fancy with sensors, just swapped the oil pressure sensor for a new one - ex tractor as it happens and works perfectly

the engine room is big, and having had one trip where things were going a bit, err, well wrong, and was darting up and down like a rat up a pipe, thought it might prove useful as part of the rewire I've just done, sticking remote starter down there and stuff as well

Bodge job IMHO if you forget to change over and you overheat or loose oil pressure its too late and costs thousands all for the sake of a coupe of hundred, not worth it if your paying out for new gauges you may as well have it all working properly as it would have come from the factory at a fraction of the price.
