I'm already thinking about my winter projects and getting stuck into planning... I'm removing the lower helm in our 1970 Broom Ocean 37. I also need to address the gauges at the same time. My questions is essentially should I keep the capillary type Smiths gauges (and just blank off the lower helm connection) or should I go all electric?
The Smiths Gauges in the upper helm are a little tatty after 50 years outdoors, but still work and I could replace them with the pretty perfect versions from the lower station. None leak and the lines are in good condition.
I need to replace the Smiths tachos as they don't work at all well, they are the cable to AC generator type. So will go for new alternator driven versions.
I'm also going to fit a low oil pressure alarm on each engine.
Thanks!
