Heat exchangers I have stripped in the past , have either had a gasket or an O ring.
If your's has O rings don't use a Gasket cement type stuff.
Grease or vasalene or similar should be applied.
If a gasket or some sort of composite material is the correct fitement, even then ,just a smear of "Hylomar " (brand name look in Halfords etc) a non setting type of stuff.
Strictly speaking, little or no "Gasket Goo" should be nessecary

Got the darn thing apart . Nothing to do with the gasket being broken its the bl**dy radiator in side the heat exchanger housing thats got a tinny split in it. Our local VP agents only wants £910 for new one !!!! nearly fell over when he told me the price .. So im trying to get a good second hand one or will try to get this one mended.

Radiator or car air con specialists may well be able to fix that for comparatively beer money. Failing that a competent plumber or model engineer may be able to help if you have a simple split pipe. A short term solution would be to blank that pipe but your cooling capacity would be reduced pro rata, depends then on the safety margin in the design.
