I have just bought a lift pump for my 3GM30 but it didn't come with a gasket. You can't buy just the gasket....so I will make my own but I require the gasket material to be oil and heat proof. The old gasket is sh*gged but appears to be made of a thin cardboard type material covered in a type of foil similar to an engine head gasket but of thinner material. Any pointers to a source ? Ta

Not sure where you are but PMA motor factors should have gasket material - so might halfords but I try to avoid them after the treatment I've had !

HOWEVER I just asked my excellent mechanic ( racing / celebrity cars, motorbikes + a boat owner ) chum and his advice was ' get back to the pump suppliers and ask where's the gasket, as this is not something to have your own made one go wrong, not least for warranty issues.

....bought on Ebay as old stock and I knew the gasket wasn't supplied. £20 cheaper than Yanmar rrp.

You can get Gasket paper of various thicknesses on ebay - I bought a pack of different types assorted the other week.

Ive made them out of cornflake boxes before now with a good jointing compound!

Don't use silicone gasket compound.Diesel attacks it.
ahem, good jointing compound! silicone, in my eyes is the spawn of the devil and in my view is NOT!
Hylomar or Hermatite red jointing compound. Does anyone remember Stag?

Caladh,

Yes you can buy just the gasket !

Don't make your own when the correct one is not expensive.

Try this http://www.marine-power.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&path=20_86&product_id=460

I'm hopeless! I was lead to believe it wasn't available and only came with the lift pump itself. I hadn't looked at MP web site to check. The older I get the worse it gets !! Thanks anyway - one ordered today. Other info re gasket paper of interest anyway so thanks to those inputs.
