Recently wondered why my cooker wouldn't light. Checked the regulator, which was replaced 2 years ago, and while turned on smelt gas and heard a hissing sound. So replaced it with another and same situation. Traced the copper tubing from the bottle and deep in the cockpit locker the pipe had totally corroded through! Any recommendations for a simple paraffin cooker?

No such thing as simple paraffin stove IMHO.
Renew the gas pipe but run it as it should have been run in the first place ie not deep in lockers but clipped up properly where it wont be likely to be corroded.

Also fit a bubble leak detector!

Any idea what caused the corrosion ? If you do a straight replacement (even clipped up as VicS properly suggests) then is there's a source of local corrosion (from dripping vinegar, to contact with another piece of metal) then you will have the same problem.

The leak detector is key!

i installed my copper pipe & used reinforced plastic hose as an extra "sheathing" over the copper, fixed the whole lot with plastic "P" clips also added a hose clip @ either end of the run to seal the plastic hose around the copper.

For a reccomendation on a Parafin coooker, I'd recommend the Origo 3000. Its a Meths cooker, with two rings, but no grill.

[/ QUOTE ] For a recommendation in re a paraffin cooker ignore suggestions about meths cookers unless that's actually what you want. The Taylors paraffin cookers are superb, reliable and easy to use (although a little learning is involved) and last practically for ever. They are however ludicrously expensive new although sometimes you will see a s/h one at a huge saving.

corroded, perhaps eroded, where it passed through a bulkhead. The pipe was not secured in its last 4 feet so obviously lots of movement.

Put the hose clip at the stove end only. Then if the pipe leaks the gas will run down the plastic hose and come out into the gas locker, which should be draining.
