Anyone know where you can get spares or a new/reconditioned gas water heater. The type I'm looking for used to be fitted to the Moody 33. I picked up a rinnai,similar to a paloma but its too big for my tomahawk. Anyone interested?
I believe they they were supplied or built in Hull probably for fishing boats.
Excellent bit of kit but mine just wore out and I stupidly threw it away. Its about a third of the size of the Rinnai/Paloma and was brilliant for washing up.
Any help would be appreciated.

If you also do a search for Paloma gas water heater on the eber site it come up with a chap who does trade in deals for old ones.
 
Thanks for your help,I have seen the site you mention but I was hoping someone with a moody 33 or someone who has the heater may have further information.
 
I once bought a boat with a gas water heater. The surveyor said I had to get rid of it as they'd been outlawed (this was around 2001). He said I wouldn't get insurance if I had one fitted so I chucked it.
Do you think he was wrong?

I'm not sure but I had one in my boat for years until it died of old age. It was a very small one without a flue and great for washing the dishes etc. I always closed the gas supply to it when not using it and had a bubble tester fitted in the gas line.The bubble tester is still in use for the cooker. The water heater had a pilot light which obviously went out when I turned the control switch to off but i backed it up with an line gas valve as well. Lighting it was by a simple pietzo (sp) switch. You had to drain it in the winter due to freezing issues in the heat exchanger. Water supply was supported by a pump operated by water tap switch which flashed up the main gas burners as water went through heater.

A dead friend of mine had a gas water heater on his boat.I was the one who found him,CO killed him .No alarm on board.
 
I am totally taken by the Calorifier that came with my boat.For the average amount of work my engine does in a day even if only in and out of the harbour gives enough water for several showers;dish wash in the evening and warm water in the morning.

I would like to have one , but have yet to find anyone who has fitted one to a Yanmar 2GM20 sea water cooled engine with any success?
 
I have a Moody 33 with the original gas water heater. When I bought the boat 4 years ago the heater, and whole gas system, was the first thing I had checked out by a qualified gas engineer. He was surprised to be able to say the heater was in near perfect condition although the water flow was low due to deposits in the heat exchanger. Several attempts to flush it out with his kit didn't succeed so he ordered a new part from the original makers in Germany. Arrived by return and fitted easily. The heater has flame failure safety and works perfectly for all hot water requirements including showers. Directly above the heater in the galley is a dorade vent so plenty of fresh air available. My boat is well vented and the CO alarm has never gone off due to the heater running - and it is regularly checked to be working!
