Surely you just need a prop to support it in the horizontal position

Interesting to see your set up.
This confirms my thinking regarding the distance from the end of the panel to mount the strut.
Do you have a strut on each side of the panel?

Gas strut may be the long term solution.
For now Im using a twist lock extension pole for each panel.
This is because I may end up moving the panels to an arch.
I want to see how it goes.

My panels are fitted to the pushpit fore and aft (or as near as the shape permits). The fittings allow rotation to optimise the angle. They are friction fitted and haven't yet shown any signs of wind susceptibility. Mind you, the wind is nearly always fore and aft as well on my mooring.
