I want some new brackets for the gas struts on the companionway. I've bought some new ones for the lifting end, but the "brackets" on the engine compartment are bolts threaded through the bulkhead, with a washer and a couple of nuts. They don't like it at all:

What I really need is something like this, but with an M8 screw instead of the stud and ball:

The side panel is about 50mm wide, and I need at least 20mm of offset.

Suggestions?

As you say - cut the spigot/ball off. They may not be enough meat for tapping a thread in which case drill out to 8mm and insert a bolt of suitable length from the back and weld the head to the rear face to give you a solid threaded stud.
