Ah, good old insurance co; they're after a gas safe certification for Isabella's gas system.

Does anyone else have this requirement with their insurer? (Mine is N&G)

Anyone know of a co in the Portsmouth/Fareham/Hamble area that'll do a cert on a boat whilst still ashore? Please post or send me their details via PM.

Many thanks

Tell them it is not required to have a Gas Safety Certificate as it is not an inland waterways craft.

They might be mixing you up with a narrowboat................................

Sadly though, if they want to stipulate it as a requirement for them to insure you, they can.

It's crazy though. I wonder how many insurance payouts there are each year as a result of gas problems? I suspect that it is very few indeed.

Hi, I am qualified gas engineer if you need gas safe certification for your boat gas system

The latest Certification of gas safe engineers is similar to the old Corgi and this causes a problem in some areas
as LPG Gas safe engineers with Marine LPG qualifications could be a wee bit thin on the ground. It could be possible that not
all Gas Safe engineers are willing to pay for a certificae they may hardly use.

Go to the Gas Safe web site
Put in your desired post code (full code)
click search then just above your post code select type of gas
click on LPG and search.
I put in a post code from Hayling Island up pops LPG registered engineers and you will see to the right of their details the items they are covered for.
look for boats and what ever appliance you have installed.

PS The link will only show you the default page you will need to add details to find what you need.

I hear from many people who fall foul of this requirement on seagoing craft. The inland waterways regulations are sound and many surveyors apply their principles on all craft. Once a surveyor has recommended an upgrade to the system it would be a very unusual insurance company that contradicted him.

N&G did the same with me about 10 years ago. I got a clean bill of health so N&G were happy.

THE people who have been recommended on here in past are

GAS CHECK MARINE http://www.gascheckmarine.co.uk/home.html

I had to have one done, and having installed the system myself was grateful to know that I was not about to blow myself up. It cost me £70, so good value for peace of mind and compliance with the insurers wishes.

Nope. No certificate required for Windermere or Coniston. Regulated by the South Lakeland District Council and the Lake District National Park. Not for Ullswater or Derwent Water either, I think.

( I think you mean Canal and River Trust http://canalrivertrust.org.uk/ )

I must say, I wasn't ever asked for one when we were on Windermere (though that was a while back).

not the same as corgi, on corgi a marine surveyor could do the cert with only weekend course of training, now gas safe requires testers to be full heating engineer 1st.
that's why its not pushed now for surveys or bsc.
