Absolutely. A gas alarm is next to essential.
A CO alarm important if you are heating the cabin, esp overnight, with any carbon based fuel.

A gas alarm can be linked to an emergency shut off valve if desired.

A bubble type leak detector in the installation is well worth fitting as it enables you to check the system integrity every time the gas bottle is turned on.

Well worth fitting as it will show even a minute leak, but needs to be fitted as close as possible to the regulator.

Usually fitted in the gas locker I believe although not essential AFAIK.. Keeps the extra joints in there I suppose .

Seems wrong to put it anywhere else really.
You might as well protect all the joints in the living space of the yacht, although realistically, the things most likely to leak are the tap by the cooker and the cooker itself.

Personally I don't tend to turn the gas off at the bottle unless I leave the boat.
If you are not confident the system does not leak, you shouldn't be sailing with it.

Bubble Leak Detector

I've got the Alde one fitted in the locker about 50mm from regulator. This enables me to have a pipe run with no joins between inside of locker and the cooker.
