Im trying to source 4 hydraulic gas "helper" rams to assist lifting my engine hatches now we have had teak decks laid.

Can anyone recommend someone who can supply these please - I presume they need to be stainless rather than the readily available ones supplied to the automotive industry ?

Thanks

Alan

I bought a pair of Trem rams from force4, they were sold as stainless but I guessed they werent as they were only £14 for the pair.

I used one on the flybridge hatch, got lots of salt spray.
lasted two years and I replaced it .

if you are using it inside a cupboard I would assume it will last 4 years compared with stainless 6-8 years at 5x the cost ???

Engine hatch rams will be pretty much out of the weather. I'd personally try a pair of automotive ones, couple of quid a piece from the local breakers yard. Worse case scenario they only last a couple of years, at which point another couple of quid for some more.

If you do go the "automotive " route get the rams for people carrier type tailgate, designed to lift heavier weight, more robustand usually longer reach.

Many thanks one & all - I think Aquafax used to do the SS ones but have now stopped - Targa want £700 for 4 rams supply only so I think the automotive route would be the sensible one and your posts have given me the confidence to go down nthat route

Needed new gas spring, fortunately there was a label on it. "Technical Spring Corp." If you google they have a good site. They sent me the correct one in stainless. It had to match as there are 2 in parallel, Cost was 80 euros inc. carriage. This is a really heavy duty one. I sent 80 euros cash and worked OK. They also speak English. It is a German Co. tel +49 05922-7795-0
