Gas leak detector

I'm thinking of buying an "Omnitron Detekta Gas". This is a pen-sized, battery operated gas leak detector that I have seen advertised in a plumbing supplies catalogue at £27.75. The idea is to occassionally test for gas leaks on board and at home.

Anyone got one? Are they any good?

I've owned one for three years and been perfectly happy with it. I use it to check the gas line from bottle along piping to cooker and check spare bottles. It is easy to use in a wide range of situations. Prior to each use I can check that it is working by placing it briefly next to an open hob.

So young Ken, how does a dinosaur like me with a fixed gas alarm manage to test that it's still working? And how about my latest acquisition, a carbon monoxide detector?
(Thinks: that'll give 'em scope to bump me off - metaphorically anyway . . .)
