Gas in europe

I am using calor gas (red bottles) in my boat and am planning to travel across europe but am led to believe that this is not available. Has anybody got any ideas on adapters or ways others have got arround this problem?

Isnt red bottle "propane " and blue bottle for "calor"?

In Germany you use Gasol ,in Uk one uses Calor.
in Sweden Camping Gaz
Can any one extend this list preferably including france ,italy etc.,

the german one runs at lower pressure than the swedish
the swedish one takes lower temperatures (logical)
so I have to use different regulator in germany to Sweden.
which of these is Butane and which Propane ?

It is possible to get the red (propane) exchangeable Calor Gas bottles refilled in some European countries. I've done so successfully in Spain and Portugal, though not in France. It entails an out-of-town visit to the gas depot in a larger port. Often the marina office can advise where - also this information gets passed through the visiting yachtie community. The cost of the taxi fare is offset by the very low cost of the refill, though some taxi drivers may refuse to carry a number of bottles.

If you want to make life easier for yourself, switch to Camping Gas (butane), widely available everywhere, but disgracefully expensive. Another option if you are in one country for a while is to buy into the local exchangeable bottle system. However this is only convenient for butane. And you will need a different adaptor/regulator with each system.

Some additional comment: I found it easier many years ago to get any cylinder refilled in about any place, if you brought your big set of adapters. These days things seems way more strict, and fillings stations do not refill bottles other than their own in many places.
I have since gone to the more expensive Camping Gaz, only to find out that you can't get it in Norway!
So for now it is Camping Gaz for me, but in the back of my mind I'm thinking about doing away with all LPG on the boat and replacing the oven with a Wallas diesel oven and cooker.
Does anybody have experience with those?

Red for Propane blue for Butane. Calor is a trade name and the company sells both under the trade name Calor Gas. They (Propane and Butane) run at different pressures in this country and I would be delighted if anyone can suggest how to convert from one to the other. I have a cooker which is set for Propane and want to use Butane (actually Camping Gaz). Anyone got any suggestions?

I swopped from butane to propane because it is better in lower temperatures. I just changed to a propane regulator which gives a slightly higher pressure to offset the lower calorific value of propane. No changes needed to jets etc. I was told and it certainly burns with a perfect flame.

Rex is right, provided you use the appropriate adaptor for each, they're interchangeable. I used to have three adaptors in my caravanning days, one for propane (used big bottles when it was cold, as I had gas-fired central heating), one for butane (more economical in warm weather) and camping gaz (horribly expensive, but available almost anywhere in Europe.)
