Hi all,

We have never used our gas hot water heater. However as the winter is nearly upon us. I wonder if you guys could recomend someone who could eihter give it a good servise or advise if its unsafe. I have not tried to get it going as I don,t wish to go boom. I think it is probaly 15 years old or so but it looks fine.

Cheers
Matt

Hi Andrew

Did he not do at least a flame test (tests for air flow blockage).
Not having a gas water heater I wouldn't know, but is seems logical at least.

My examiner always insists on a thorough cooker test including boiling a kettle - or is that for a well earned cuppa?? :) :)

Did you get the Boat Safety Certificate done or was it done by a previous owner? If the boat has gas appliances the examiner would have been obliged to check and test them as well as the overall integrity of the gas piping from the gas bottles to the furthest point of the gas supply line. The examiner also supplies a check list with the certificate showing that all checks have been carried out.

You can see the full extent of the tests by downloading the information here:

Looking back through your posts it appears you bought your boat earlier this year in Walton Marina. The seller should have given you his copy of the Boat Safety Certificate which I presume you have if you know the next test is due in January? You should be either able to read the Examiners SIgnature to find out who did it last time, or you could ring The BSS Office and ask them to tell you which examiner issued the certificate (Rob McLean (Comms. Mgr) 01923 201353 - is very helpful.)

If you can do that you will be able to ask him if he can check it for you or knows a man who can, and sort out the new test at the same time.

If you'd like to talk through this stuff PM me a telephone number.
