I want to replace the hob in my galley. Just the hob, not the whole oven.

Proper marine hobs cost an arm and a leg, but I understand that some regular domestic manufacturers make cheap hobs with a camping gas convertor.

Anyone know anything about these? And where to go?

Cheers.

I advise go to a local good Campling / Caravan Dealers .... the hobs / cookers are many the same as Chandlers so called marine jobs.

You could even try via a Caravan Breakers / Parts supplier such as : >

Converting a domestic job .... mmmm don't like the sound of that idea ... plus average domestic hob is larger.

not checked it out yet but....

most hobs/ovens can be adjusted to run on LPG/calor by changing the fuel jets.

IKEA do a nice little two burner stainless job for £65. flame failure device etc...i need to check the availability of the jets though.

other than something like that... it's the camping/caravan alternatives.

hope it helps.

steve.

I live out in the sticks where the only gas is calor. There are plenty of domestic calor appliances about. Indeed our local supplier is having a summer sale to clear , ready for new stock for winter. Full size domestic cookers as little as £250, hobs about £100. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Here's one from AEG

It says: "LPG (bottled gas) conversion kit" Anyone had experience of this?

This one is £159. 60cm wide. Would be nice to find one a tad smaller, and cheaper.

This one is £89

The blurb says: Natural gas (jets for propane/butane included) Is that not good enough?

Somebody posted about these people a few days ago. I ordered their catalogue which arrived yesterday. They do hobs, and they also have some in their current clearance sale . I'm not sure if any details are shown on their website.

I've got the one indicated by Karel
and it works great on LPG, we only have LPG in RSA.

I mounted on a frame with rails to stop the pots sliding off and a gimble as this is on a mono hull yacht

Thanks for the replies.

I won't bother with a gimbal - this will only be used in the comfort of a marina.

Any tips on installation? I'll do it myself then get someone (who really knows what they're doing) to check it.

In case anyone is interested in doing what I'm doing: after a lot of trawling the internet (trawling? geddit? Oh never mind...) here's what I've found:

BAU-HBI-B60TCSS-SS.jpg

Baumatic B60TCSS £150 This can be turned around so the knobs face you.

p62m.jpg

Baumatic P62 £200

x4.jpg

CDA - X4 £340

Delivery included in all prices. They all have an LPG kit (very straightforeward) and have flame failure safety devices. They're all about 58cm x 50-58cm

I very much like the styling of the last one, but think that with a boat's rocking the pans will slip off the burners. However the other two are really cheap - much cheaper than similar 'marine' ones. Certainly better looking.

Happy cooking! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
