Gas fittings 3/8" to Nelson Spinflow (5/16" or 8mm)

Hi,

I'm installing a Nelson Spinflo gas cooker in Sunrunner and I need an armoured hose to connect the cooker to the 3/8" gas pipe in the boat.

I emailed Socal and got recommendations to use these two items : armoured hose and 3/8 to 8mm adaptor but I'm not quite sure how that will work out ? Am I right in thinking that the adaptor will attach with a compression fitting to the cooker gas inlet (see attached pic) ? And that the hose will directly connect to the 3/8" gas pipe in the boat without the use of adaptors ? Do they both join with compression fittings (olives) ? Or what ?

Also, am I correct in thinking the T'd off section with the black cap thing at the end end is a test fitting ? If so then can someone tell me how it is used ?

If you look at the pictures in the links you posted, you should see how it works. The adaptor has a compression fitting at each end. The hose has a piece of pipe at each end. Fit the adaptor to the cooker, fit one end of the hose into the other compression fitting on the adaptor. Then you'll have to join the pipe at the other end of the hose to the gas pipe in the boat. For this you'll need a "3/8 equal inline connector", also obtainable from Socal.

Well the compression fitting should fit the hose end Ok

Provided the pipe on the cooker is smooth and round and the fitting is the correct size for it it should fit that too.
The difference between 8mm and 5/16" is less than 0.1 mm. If the 5/16 olive will go on , and i'd be surprised if it did not, it will be fine.

Socal know what its all about. Id think you could rely on them.

Cannot tell from the picture if that is a test point.
Usually they have a screwed in plug in the end. You remove that to attach the manometer connection (rubber hose). Maybe thats just a protective cap.


Be sure you know how to use compression fittings.

Use copper olives ( not brass)

Do not use sealing compounds, especially tape

Ensure that the pipe is pushed fully into the body of the fitting

Tighten sufficiently to compress the olive onto the pipe without deforming the pipe.

Test the joints with very dilute washing up liquid or preferably a spray. If you use wup liquid wash it off after as it is corrosive.
