Gas bottles in Europe

We use bottled gas for cooking at home in Greece, I have been told it is a mix of Propane and Butane (hearsay no proof) On the Islands it is 15 europs for a 13.5 kilo bottle, probably a euro cheaper on the Mainland. Just bought a new one this week thats how I know, the regulators are 3 euro each.

So - we have just forked out for a gas fitting set, which we bought at the boat show yesterday!

Can you post any further info on this set ?? Would defo be interested in making a purchase. Thanks

Have a look at socal.co.uk adaptors

For exchanges in Greece I don't recall paying more than 10 euros (must find out the shortcut for the proper sign!) in the past three years, and that was in a very small place on Evia where the shop owner went to great lengths to obtain an exchange for me. In Mourtos, Astakos, Ermioni, Nidri, Limnos and maybe some others we paid 8 euros or slightly less.

Have a look at this LPG autogas adaptor set to refill gas bottles:

Unless you can sneak onto the forecourt without any attendants seeing you you will be unable to use the kit as it is illegal to refill bottles in many countries. This rules out Spain and Italy immediately, as most forecourts in these two countries are attended. In Portugal there are some out-of-the-way garages where you might get away with it. In France it will sometimes be possible but don't rely on it. In Greece there is no autogas except in a very few stations around Athens.

Refilling is legal in Holland and Germany but the places that do it tend to be camping shops and suchlike, not easily found. We used to refill ours in The Hague but it took us two years to find the shop!

The huge disadvantage with any refills is that you have to lug the bottle somewhere out of town on the off-chance that you might get it refilled. IMHO the hassle of just finding somewhere that sells Camping Gaz is quite enough.

Hi - well we haven't used it yet so can only say that we bought it! The site is gasboat.net, and if you look at the product pdf (not just the product page, you will see the adaptor set near the bottom of the page. The company is Suffolk based.

HTH.

Calor Gas is only available in the UK. We sailed from UK to Greece in 2008 via France, Spain and Italy and found that you could NOT get Calor Gas bottles refilled in any of these countries. They all did however have Camping Gaz.

You could of course by their equivalent to Calor Gaz but as you would expect each country uses a different regulator so not only would you have to buy a different bottle but also another regulator.

You can get CALOR/PROPANE filled exchanged in Estoponia. We have had three tanks swopped there.
