Gas Bottle Location for BSS

Reading the BSS on gas bottle location it states the bottle should be 1m from a source of ignition. I have seen lots on bottles on the sterns of boats less than 1m from the outboard which I would class as a source of ignition. As the outboard and bottle are outside, the potential for an explosive mixture is reduced, so feel the stern mount is a good option.
If your a BSS examiner would you refuse a certificate based on the bottle mounted on the stern less than 1 m for the starter solinoid of the outboard ?

mu o/b does not have a solenoid & until the dead man string is attached its dead

My experience with BSS examiners is that on the whole they are a friendly bunch who want to pass your boat. They will advise and discuss any minor issues and only fail for something significant.

There is also the point that if there is no gas bottle on the boat when the BSS exam is done, they can't fail it for its location

The BSS states that, "Outboard motors within
1m (39 in) of cylinders are not to be considered a source of ignition."

The BSS also says,
"Best practice
Although it is compliant, we do not recommend storing cylinders
and the high- and low-pressure connection and associated
equipment on the outside face of the transom, owing to the risk
of damage in the event of a collision. Should this arrangement be
necessary, we recommend that components be adequately
protected from potential collision damage."

BTW the majority of electric start outboards will a have a solenoid associated with the starter motor.

Bottle damage

Thanks, my location would be on on the stern but on an inside face so could not be damaged by impact unless i wrote off 2ft of the whole stern

I have not had a bottle on board n the coast, I expect the salt air will corrode the bottle, anybody got any tips how to prevent rust ?

Mine in a gas bottle locker does not rust excessively but the bottle locker is itself inside one of the cockpit lockers
