I have placed an order for a Garmin 451S. I know that it has basic mapping. The g2Blue 'mapping' looks interesting and I have been looking at prices and getting confused!
On Ebay I see a new g2 card ( for the 451S) covering all uk and Ireland for £69 then another ad offering the same area at £200 ( but not sure if this can be used on the 451)
So I dont understand the price difference, can anyone explain?
Also on ebay I see smaller chart areas at around £150. I guess that these are 'charts' produced at a larger scale and showing more detail, is this the case.
Finally, our next cruise is from Preston to the Solant and accross to France. We have used paper charts and Seaclear for planning, Sea clear has been great as it has all the charts down to the largest scales for close coast/harbour work.
What level of accurate detail will the 451s supplied mapping work down to and would the £69 UK and Ireland g2 be detailed enough for us?
Thanks guys

Garmin Bluecharts are widely pirated - and the pirated versions may be old, out of date copies or may contain dangerous errors. It's best to buy from Garmin directly, or from one of their authorised dealers - that way, if a chart is recalled, as happened recently, you will be able to get it replaced free of charge.
However, Bluecharts are expensive, and there's no way to update them that I'm aware of - I think that, given how expensive they are, the least Garmin could do is to offer a reasonably-priced updating service; this might also help to discourage piracy.

We have a 551 with internal charts, and they are fairly good; in some place around here they lack the level of detail that my old Navionics chart in my previous plotter had. Some well known anchorages are just marked with red hatching as a 'no go area'- but we just refer to the pilot book for detail in these areas.

I have a G2 Vision EU100R (south coast, north coast of France) I was thinking of selling if you're interested. Purchased it last year but a change of boat (with Raymarine plotter) has made it redundant. PM me if your interested.
