...or it's not a strange problem but I'm just being thick!
Okay, I have just aquired (friend was throwing it out as it wasn't working) a virtually brand new Garmin VHF200i with all the cables and basic mic. So what is the problem?
Powers up fine, everything works in the menu, all the controls work, it transmits on both hi and lo power, DSC works. Basically everything works except receiving. Nothing comes through on the speaker or mic speaker. When I adjust the squelch, the speakers function with the usual white noise and I can then hear the received transmit ion through the static. Adjust the squelch to just cut out the static and the receiv transmission disappears! Not being a radio buff, does anyone know what the problem might be and a possible fix before I consider contacting Garmin? Tried the factory reset with no effect.
I've been testing it on the workbench with a proper emergency ariel and good 12v supply with an Icom 91 as the other radio.
