So I bought a SteadyCast a few weeks ago and finally fitted it. Despite aligning it with the boat, it's bearing isn't showing correctly so it needs calibrating. The only problem is I can't seem to get it to work. I've tried following the instructions, and the B&G Vulcan has a calibration option (picture), but for the life of me I can't get it to work.

Has anyone successfully done this with this pairing, and if so can you share what you did?

No, because I ran out of time last year before she came out of the water. She's been back in for a couple of weeks now but I've not had the chance to try again. It's on the list for the next couple of weeks.

I got it calibrated this weekend. Used the basic calibration method in the instructions, and got it more or less set up. It involves doing two full turns within 3 minutes of turning the sensor on, and then a further 1.5 turns to do the calibration, and then motoring in a straight line for a minute.

It's showing the heading about 5 degrees off at the moment, so I wonder if I did something wrong in the last stage of calibration, so I need to go and give it another go, but agt least I know how to do it now.

Good to know. It does appear it needs to be absolutely flat calm to get it bang on. Also maybe check the settings that’s it’s on magnetic and not true north?

Yeah, I'm lucky that we live at the head of a big fjord, so it's like a lake. I was able to do this on a calm evening at slack tide, so there was nothing to push me around.

I'd not thought about magnetic north, I'll have to explore that, thank you
