Can anyone tell me the best place to buy the Marine Bluechart CD for Europe??

I have a GPSMAP 76 Handheld, which takes downloadable data from a Mapsourse CD, will the Bluechart work with this, and is it possible to download the info onto Garmin Datacards, should i end up buying a chartplotter like say the 276C in the future?

Also the region i am looking for is THIS ONE, do you know how much memory is reguired for it?

Thanks for any help.

Alistair.

Hi Alistair,

I have the 276C, and it's fab. Like you, I couldn't get any sensible answers on how much space a region takes up, so I bought an enormous (128MB) card to go with my Mapsource CD, but really, the whole of the South Coast only takes up 16/17MB, so a 32MB card would have done the job.

The way it works is that you load the Mapsource CD onto a PC, and "unlock" the region you want. You then connect a USB cable to the 276C, select a set of charts, and "upload" them into the GPS. You do NOT need a card programmer ! - the 276C loads them into the card for you.

Marine Super Store at Port Solent (www.marine-super-store.com) are selling CD's with one unlock code for £125. You might be able to get it cheaper elsewhere.

P.S. If you do get a 276C, be careful where you mount it. Don't do what I did and try and put it right in the corner under the windscreen frame, cos it won't get a signal there... Test first BEFORE drilling the holes in your dash.

Hope this helps,
dave.

Thanks Dave, It does help me.

I haven't been able to find it any cheaper than Marine Super store, so its maybe best i buy it there.
Once you unlock one region, am i right in saying you can upload that region into as many units as you want?

About the 276c, does it take the remote ariel? And does the unit come with a card, or would i need to buy a 32mb card as well?

Thanks for the info,

Cheers

Al.

You can only upload into two units using the same unlock code. You have to buy more unlock codes if you want to do more.

Europe!!!

Thats a bit ambitious isn't it. I thought Windermere to Alcudia Bay was a big step but the whole of Europe!! wow /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Is the baby going with you?

GPS in a lake

um, is this strictly necessary? I wd thought you just drive in a straight line sort of anywhere, and eventually ...oho! here we are! Or of course, you could do constant "blind navigation" and just keep track of location from depth contours.
