I'm considering purchasing a handheld GPS for sailing (UK Coastal Waters) and also cycle touring in the UK. I understand the 76CSX will take a Garmin BlueChart and also a UK OS Survey Map - or equivalent.

Any views? Good and bad. If you have one and are pleased with your purchase (or not!) please let me know.

Thanks,

A1!

They don't make it anymore. I tried to buy one online from a retailer who showed stock availability, but was let down. You might get lucky elsewhere...

Instead I have just bought the new 78s for £250 and a garmin bluechart additional £199 that covers UK Ireland, N France to Netherlands. The technical department at garmin were friendly and helpful when I called for advice on compatability of charts.

Have not used it in anger yet so can't comment. Youtube have a decent review of it and demo's of how to use the various features, stick gps 78s in the search and look at the gps city vids.

I have one with the G3 Vision charts for the Med. Charts were an overkill bu I intend to replace the present electronics with all Garmin gear eventually. So the charts have a purpose....

I use it as my main unit fitted at the Binnacle with a plug in power supply. Lasts 18 hours continuous on its internal batteries.... Main plotter is below deck.

I find it excellent in all respects except the screen is small. That said, if you are willing to live with the screen size, it will do everything you want and more. I find the Trail points a very nice feature... if you have a MOB situation. Put the vessel in irons, start engine, douse the sails and retrace the dots of where you have sailed. You should find your lost CM.

Entering waypoints is not very intuitive if you do so on the unit itself; dont know if its easier with a PC plotter....

Good kit IMO

I have recently bought a 78s, have not got a chart in it yet. It seems very good, does a lot of things, gets good reports in reviews. Paid £299.00 for mine!

Link below to site. It's not got the word 'marine' in it, so keeps the cost right down. The £250 included case and postage.

Excellent service received, delivered by amazing courier that emailed and texted time slots within an hour, marine superstore could learn a thing or two from these guys...
