ooh, i've got one. It's vair nice. However, i have no idea bout others. However i was on a boat with two other people and we had all had one of these or versions of it so it seems to be well liked.

I've had one of these as well, lovely bit of kit. Also used it on my motorbike (very handy on your holidays for making sure your av speed between the tolls on the autoroute stays below 130kmh!).

thanks guys
what did you pay seen them at £529 - £439 inc vat and delivery. anybody know where cheaper or good service based in north west
regards

Though the bargain one at the moment is probably the RC400 which seems a pretty reasonable unit (although a bit aggressive on batteries). 290 at JG Tech (and anything from 350 - 425 at the boat show).

Edit: of course, the RC400 is only marine, so ignore me /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Yep, I looked at Garmin too. Realistically, no one makes a bad one now, but if you can get to LIBS, there WILL be deals!
I bought Lowrance LXC19C through eBay fantastic unit and included sounder/fishfinder! Used Navionics charts, excellent. Not everyones cuppa though, to have it all in one box. The limitation with Garmin is the screen size and here, both Navman and Lowrance have got 'em beat (IMHO) If cost is important Navman 5500 is great. If you want to get flexible and use it on road as well then look at PDA type devices there's some pretty good ones coming and soon! I was recommended to Raymarine by a fellow forumite, DjeFabs for my current boat and must say, it's really good gear using C-Map. I have a good 2nd hand Navman 5500. PM me if interested.
Good Luck! /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Same as Brendan, I had the 176c but now have a 276c. I bought both of them off E-bay. I paid just over £300 for the 276c but I didn't get done for customs (it came from a marine electronics company in New York).

THat is the best proper sized chart plotter with full marine cartography and roads and a decent sized screen. Sounds like you have already found what you need!! Garmin are the main contenders for combined marina and road mapping. Raymarine etc dont have road navigation software and arent removable/portable. It also still supports external nmea so you can plug it in to the boat and it will show speed, log etc

thanks for all the good comments

Dear Forum Member,

Thank you for alerting us to this error in collecting the import duty and Value Added Tax on this item which should have been collected by the carrier in the UK.

An invoice for the full amount, plus a late payment surcharge will be sent out shortly. The carrier has been informed, and will amend their procedures relating to personal imports of electronic goods from the United States.

HM Revenue & Customs.

Dear HM Customs and Excise Officer, can you please verify your identity, as I do not believe you are actually a HM Officer, and impersonating such is a grave offence which involves heavy penalties.

I sincerely hope you can prove you are a HM Officer, as I have forwarded your post to the real Customs and Excise for verification

I went into all this a while ago, trying to import a very same 276C. I didn't realise that there are "quotas" each year for different classes of goods, and if you import at the start of the year, and you are within the quota, a lower band of import duty applies. Typically, I was outside the quota, the shipper labelled the goods correctly, so I got slammed with the full duty plus vat. Ouch.

Okay, I have just arrested myself, and am now handcuffed to the desk awaiting collection by an appropriate law enforcement agency.

How long should I expect to wait ?
