Garmin GPSMAP 2006C Can't find signal

Hi

Does anyone have an idea about how to resolve a problem with my Garmin chartplotter?

It worked perfectly when I last used the boat at the end of last season. She went back in the water this week and now it can't find a signal. I just get the message "waiting for GPS antenna".

I have left the unit on for a couple of hours whilst in transit hoping it would get a signal but no luck.

I have also 're-set' the unit (which meant that I lost previous tracks and waypoints) but this has not worked.

Any ideas would be gratefully received as I can't get a professional to look at it this side of the bank holiday weekend and it may scupper my travel plans for Easter (as my chartwork is a bit rusty!).

Sounds like the unit has lost contact with the GPS?

Have you checked the connections and examined the mushroom for any water ingress?

After doing the above, call Garmin.

Had the exact same problem on a 3010C, replaced antenna, (not cheap), job fixed.

Suspect that is where your problem is, unless there is a connection issue.

Might be a software upgrade needed. I've found Garmin v helpful by phone. I find their website help a bit more obscure!

I guess if it was working and nothing has changed since the last use, then S/W is probably not the problem?

It was a problem with the antenna which has now been replaced (at a cost of £140) but still much cheaper than some of the other options it could have been!
