I bought (very cheaply) a NASA AIS receiver with the intention to marry it to the GPS of my old Garmin. The Garmin's manual says to use the blue 'port out' wire to feed GPS data to the AIS. On fitting everything lights up but the AIS doesn't know where it is. Any ideas?

Connect the NMEA output of the Garmin (or NMEA +) to the BLUE wire (NMEA IN) of the AIS

Have you set the port type on the Garmin, needs to be NMEA 0183 not Garmin. ?

The AIS connections are power, VHF aerial and a 3-pin plug. I haven't set any port type; I did find the ports in a menu but didn't see any setting of types an option. Thanks for taking an interest.
