We are hopefully taking our boat to the Clyde for a week or two. I would like to download a detailed marine map of the area onto said GPS.

Is it still possible to?
Has anyone done similar recently please?
Pointers and any links would be appreciated as time is limited.

What was the cost if any?

I will probably download Navionics onto my phone and have a chart as well, we like paper maps.

I doubt we will be doing serious navigation, launching from Largs and pottering around the Kyles etc.

I now have Mapsource installed. It kind of looks like I can't get what I want which is a detailed map of the Clyde.

Further to the above I have downloaded an updated version of Mapsource which allowed me to back up Waypoints Routes etc. to my PC from Garmin: Link and selected maps for the areas I am interested in. It does not seem to be more detailed than the base map I am wondering if I need to alter any settings within the GPS. Don't want to spend too much time on it as I suspect the solutions will be new Navionics on my phone and an old copy on my wides Ipad.

Going into settings (or some such) and enabling "Rivers" worked to make the base map more usable. I don't know if it would help with a downloaded chart.
It does not alter the poor definition but assists to orientate you better when scanning the display.
Putting waypoints in at points of interest/danger then made it a useful piece of kit. Afraid I never went further than this.

I did download maps for the area but the Mapsource ones where more suited to land than water. Previously I had had some basic buoyage giving lights, this disappeared when I downloaded new maps using Mapsource and reappeared when I downloaded an older version.

Does anyone know if I can download a POI
(Point of Interest) file giving current buoy positions.

We are sailing on and around the Clyde so pilotage rather than navigation. I bought a May 2019 imray chart which covers Clyde, Kyles, Tarbet etc. I also have an old more detailed folio and current Navionics on my phone.

I was a bit surprised that some of the smaller channel buoys going around the headland west of Garloch by Rhu weren't marked on the less detailed map. I did not look in the folio as that is so old. I am not sure if they are on the Navionics. I don't like the fact that I have to drill down 2 layers to find the light sequences in Navionics.

Should I have looked for recent chart updates even though the chart is May 2019 and I think (Off the boat at moment)
says updated to May 19?
