I've had a handheld garmin GPS 60 for the last few years (the yellow one) and really very pleased with it. Although the couple of times i've used it this season it's struggled to pick up a fix it just keeps acquiring data /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif which is not that helpful. I managed to force a fix by doing something on the menu's from the instruction manual last weekend but it's not that helpful... anybody got any advice other than give garmin a call.

good question i would need to check at the weekend..... I intend to bring it home this weekend.... and take it with me on my travels in the week and keep switching it on and off to check the signal.

if it does then it may have the same 'fault' as my 276 in that there is a small battery inside the sealed area to keep the clock and data when the unit it turned off. Mine appears to have died. I have to do a cold start each time i turn the unit on if it has been off for more than a few hours. Other than that it works fine so I have just lived with it.

Are you running the unit from a 12v supply or using internal batteries?
With my Garmin GPS MAP 60CS which I use mainly in the car on a 12v supply, I always leave it with charged batteries installed. I was advised that if I leave it with no batteries in, it will eventually lose it's position and will need to Initialise again the next time it is used which takes about 15 minutes.
