my garmin 152 has a Ga29 mushroom style antenna. the coax where it enters the antenna has become twisted to the point that the wire has failed. pluging the antenna into the 152 results in an 'antenna short circuit' error message. this should be a simple repair for me if I could get the antenna housing apart. but how? I found a screw in the underside beneath a sticker which I have remove but the case seems firmly stuck together. should I prize apart with brute force or does it twist open?? thanks

I think they are glued/welded together.
I have split one apart, don't know if it was the same type number, but came with garmin GPS120. The screw is a vent I think to allow you to dry the thing out in winter.
I repaired mine and araldited it back together, it worked, but I got better results with an eBay GPs antenna (meant for a car) mounted on an ali disc about 9 inches across.
Does that help?

it sure does! thanks very much. I want to fix it on the cheap: I have removed this unit which came with my new (to me) boat and replaced it with a laptop chartplotter and gps. was hoping to get some money for the unit on ebay but didnt plan to trash the coax when I removed it. sure I can prize it apart and fix it up then glue back together as you did before selling it on. the screw vent/drain seems to make sense now. thanks again!
