I have just bought a secondhand fishfinder 100 and I would like to try it out while my yacht is out of the water. What sort of reading should I get from the screen? I assume it will read zero feet/meters but should there be some sort of start page . Thanks Abdiel.

Mine reads 0.0 ft/m out of the water, but you should be able to work your way through the menus and settings. I use mine to check on the battery voltage while it's ashore during the winter as it has a useful option to display this. Also does temperature, presumably from a sensor inside the transducer moulding.

This page lists several Garmin Fishfinder manuals including the 90 but not the 100.

This page has the 100 Blue which is a higher spec but many of the menus may be relevant in the same way the manual for the 90 may help.

Failing that I would have to go to my boat to get my 100 manual to refer to.

OUT of the water you won't get a reading but if you tape it to a plank so you know it's pointing downwards you can test in a deep container of water like a wheelie bin or in the canal or any water you can get to. It will be set at whatever the previous owner programmed in. Until you mount it in your boat you won't know what distance to keel to use if you want depth below keel or distance below waterline if you want waterline depth.

Hope one of these manuals helps.

The manuals are for downloading as pdfs
