I have just got a good deal on a discontinued Garmin echomap 70s. I bought it as I wanted to upgrade to a larger screen plotter from my old GPSmap 550. The 70s has wifi connectivity, but I'm struggling to find what I can use it for. I initially thought that the Garmin helm app on the Ipad would be useful, but then discovered it wasn't compatible with this model. It will work with BlueChart Mobile, but I don't really want to spend another £85 on the charts for NW Europe.
Does anyone know if there is anything useful output on wifi that I may be able to get an Ipad app to use, such as AIS (I have a NASA AIS receiver feeding the plotter).

I also have Imray digital charts on the Ipad, I was wondering if there was a way of transferring Waypoints between the two. It seems a little cumbersome either using ITunes to sync or email to a PC then copying the GPX file to a SD card.

I guess no one has found a use for the wifi then. I only fitted it at the weekend and didn't get any time to play. I will see what free apps are available and have a play next weekend and see if I can get anything out of it. It seems a bit of a gimmick if the only thing that will work with it is Garmin's BlueChart Mobile.

If you want to use the Wifi for anything other than what Garmin can relieve you of money for, then I'm afraid you'll probably struggle. This is boating, don't you know!

Hopefully you'll find a way, but from the limited information that's out there on the net it seems you're right with the gimmick suggestion.
