I'm getting a bit confused! More I look at websites more confused I get. Just changed boats and now got Garmin plotters. Which is best chart card to use ? I was looking at the HEU706L - UK-Ireland-The Netherlands. Will it come with updated version of charts on it and will I be able to update in future? Plotters Garmin5018 and Garmin 7012.
Help or guidance much appreciated.
Thanks.
Neil

One thing to make your life easier is the simple fact that Garmin use own charts.

Navionics and Jeppesen variants and editions are out of scope, so you just need to know the area you are going to use and what degree of detail your devices support.

I've just bought "Garmin HEU706L UK Ireland".
The charts are pretty, you get cute little "marshy" squiggles where the mud is, and it covers everywhere I would want to go, and a fair bit further.

In terms of updates, you get one "free" update to make sure you start off with the latest chart.
After that, you can update by paying 50% of the original cost to refresh.
I have to admit because of that cost, I don't update them every year!
If they charged 25% of the original cost, I would update yearly...

That's only the g2 version. With the fast processor in the very nice 7012 especially, you'll have much more fun with the g2 Vision version, which is VEU706 not HEU

As someone said, when you buy it you get a free upgrade (online) so you always have the latest when you start off, then you pay to upgrade every few years

Great advice. Took on board everything and also spoke with Garmin ( found them very helpful) Ordered the G2vision version this morning.
Thanks for everything. Neil
