When and how did Garmin change cartridegeformats ? I have just given away some Garmin Bluecharts to someone on another forum, these were inherited with our last boat and our new Garmin stuff has all pre-loaded charts or takes G2 Vision cards as extras but in a different format ( looks like an SD card??0 Should I have given away these cartridges, or sent them to a museum or sold them for a fortune on EBay??

They changed some years ago now. I had a 2010 which used the old format cartridges but they stopped supporting them so no updates available. I changed to a 5012 which takes the new format SD card type charts although I do not bother with the "vision" variant as they are more expensive and I am not sure in practice that I would use the added features.

Thanks. The boat they came with ( our then liveaboard mobo) had a 2010 and a 3010 plotter we have recently installed a new 4012 based network on our new sailboat which has all USA charts pre-loaded but I did add a vision 2 card for Jacksonville, north Florida to Bahamas since this adds pictures, satellite imagery and also has the ability to suggest a route between two wpts given the boat's draught and bridge mast clearance required, a quick way to set up routes in and along the Atlantic ICW without needing to place 100s of individual wpts myself along the 'magenta' line on the chart.

They changed just before I vowed never to buy Garmin gear again. Unfortunately I went against this and bought a Garmin version of a TomTom for use in the Canary Islands. It is total pants in comparison.

I said way back if Garmin had dumped their customers once thay can do it again and also said I wouldn't trust them. Then I had a brainstorm and bought over $7000 worth of new stuff:eek:
