hi all,

coming back to the mooring on my last outing, I noticed flybridge helm wheel was dead == hydraulic oil leak.
Anyway not a big deal as you don't really need the rudders, parked the boat and checked there was a decent size ATF hydraulic oil leak by the a/p pump.
Today had a good look at it and freaked out as after filling up with half a litre of ATF on turning the wheel oil was pooring down from the a/p pump.
On closer inspection it was between the pump el. motor and the manifold (or however you want to call the thing with the three pipes coming out of it)
Locked the three flatheaded screws to disable the pump, tried a bit more, all was fine on the manifold.
Checked a bit more and thought I'd better try the two 4 or 5mm allen headed screws that seemed to hold the el.motor to the rest of the assemby.

The one took over a turn the other a turn and a half!!!

Now pump was bought new and has only done something like 500nm, not much...
I assume the screws loosened with the vibrations due to the operation of the thing.
Anyway, undid the flatheaded screws again, checked all's fine not a single drop of oil, problem sorted!

So, suggest if you do have the 1.2L garmin autopilot pump this one: https://buy.garmin.com/en-GB/GB/p/15519/pn/010-11098-00
to have a look at the two screws and tighten them (if they need to!) will probably take 1min (after finding your hex set...) and may save you some freak out moments, especially if you only have 1 engine...

cheers

Glad it was an easy fix for you.

Can you not come up with a n2k solution to monitor all bolts live for tightness across all major equipment? Winter is coming....we need something to read :D:D:D

yep, me too, wouldn't be at all happy forking out another grand on a new pump...
and I'd just wired the shadow drive (which I'd forgotten to do now for two years!) and was keen to test the setup tomorrow. Luckily all's done and ready, just need to pump out the lazarette bilge out of all the oil.

last outing tomorrow to Tue, then teaching starts on Wed. Expect a couple of threads on N2K when the weather turns sour :D
Been working on a custom PCB for N2K for most of the summer, need to finish it and sent the drawings off to China for a few copies to see how it works out.

cheers
