Garmin AIS600 setup software wanted!

I have the s/w on laptop that is on boat. Only works on windows. I have no idea about file size but can check this weekend and possibly email it

I also have a surplus original Garmin gps antenna for it with the cable. Brand new unused. Shall I mail it? I was in Athens t'other week but no immediate plans to vist Greece. AFAIK if doesn't listen for GPS position on nmea0183 but wouldn't swear 100% on that. for sure it doesn't listen for position on nmea2000 even though it is on the backbone. So I think you need the mushroom antenna. Note that this mushroom is truly an antenna and not the more usual mushroom GPS engine that talks position onto the n2k backbone or on nmea0183

If I'm mailing a parcel can you list any other Garmin odds and ends (esp cables) that would be useful and I can rummage through my Garmin bits n pieces box this weekend. Boxes, actually!

We don't want you on silent mode; we want to track you on the forum!

hi JFM is there any chance you could send me the AIS 600 software set up if you still have it? thanks

PM me your email address (DONT TYPE IT HERE!!!) and I'll sent over the working setup I have.
Don't know what's the problem with yours, but do upgrade the s/w as well!

cheers

The boat was delivered with grey and I had them all changed to black a month later.
I must have missed this thread back in its days, but now this made some sarcastic comments pop to my mind...
...if it weren't that I know how serious the poster is on style-related matters, that is! :D

Hey Vas, returning to topic of vhf hardware, I have a garmin 300i spare. Just (1) the black box, (2) the loudspeaker but it's very sun damaged and might be dead, (3) cable set, (4) totally dead curly wire handset- rotary encoder has corroded away but (5) I can include bnib garmin Bluetooth handset grey not black because I had a couple supplied as spares when boat was new. I don't love the b'tooth but I don't have any spare curly wire handsets any more.

If any use to you, I'll mail to usual Volos address foc. It's in france so need to collect in a week or 2.

Backstory = this is the kit in my tender and sun has damaged the loudspeaker, and 6 seasons of hot salt spray has ruined the handset rotary encoder. Price of parts is same as a new vhf300i (with ais- they don't even make them without ais these days), so I bought that. Ais on the tender's plotter will allow me to solve the first world problem of finding the mother ship when I forget where parked :D

Edit- dang, it will have my tender's mmsi hard coded in. Can you wipe it?

some garmin kit can always be of some use John :D
Dunno how often you hear anything transmitted on vhf at your waters, but down here it's dead silent unless you're so bored and want to hear the reports the liners give to the harbour master when coming in and when departing (which is just the number of humans, motorbikes, cars and trucks onboard...)
I often forget to even turn it on, let alone drag the wired remote to the f/b... Only serious use I've found is asking son or daugther dozing off in the salon to bring me a coke or soda upstairs :D
I'm on a vhf200i, but also use the AIS600. Could upgrade at some point to avoid using the 200 and gain back some real estate above the lower helm.

John, seriously I'm scared to even consider the habitat where a SQ78 cannot be easily spotted in an anchorage...
Glad you have your Y insurance and not need to worry about line of sight and all that carp as per last few days discussion :p

it's a AIS receiver only but will have it for the vhf bit. Not sure if I can remove it like that, I think not, but anyway 20odd euro will remove that at the Garmin main dealer in Athens, so no problem.

cheers

PS. I'd soon have the two back plates for the DSM250 ready plus I'd like to sent you a N2K black box of mine to "sniff" some data off your bus, will explain in an email, not in a hurry

That's the SoF habitat, Vas: a place where your boat, no matter how big, can disappear behind some much bigger megayacht!
Scary indeed, for us southern Med boaters... :D

I purchased a boat with the Garmin AIS 600 and need to reprogram the MMSI number because it was not previously registered in the US and it will be now. Does anyone have software that will allow me to reprogram?

hi,

we've discussed this a few years back, Garmin only give out the s/w that let's you configure various things like boat length, width, placement of gps sensor (or antenna too long don't remember...) and will also enable you to program MMSI ON A CLEAR (as in brand new) DEVICE!
Once programmed the only way is sending it back to Garmin for reprogramming. Did it with mine, was 20euro back then. Apparently the Greek Garmin dealer wasn't happy erasing and sending me a clean as new device, they insisted on programming the new MMSI on it. Excuse IIRC was that they prefered it like that so that none makes any mistake and then comes back to them asking for another free wipe. A bit of a lame excuse but that was it.

Hope it helps

when we sold our boat in the USA the local electronics guru reset the AIS 600 which had a full international MMSI (VIA USCG REGISTRY ) and new owner entered his new one issued by BoatUS (bit like RYA) which is free, simpler, issued online, but has one digit less so not listed on international register. East coas USA boats get away with this locally and out to Bahamas, Exumas etc., even Canada. Only pedants like me go for full international jobby just to go to nearby 'foreign' spots

pity you're not there to ask nicely the guy how he does it...
Interesting that I've not managed to find anything on the web/youtube at the time (haven't bothered now tbh)

he was a garmin main dealer and the operation involved him bringing his laptop on board and extracting quite a few bucks as I understand. he also did the same trick with the Standard Horizon DSC vhf that was fitted. He was the same guy that installed it all originally for me, 'Captain' Pat Edsit in Daytona Beach Florida. I bought it all on a trade account from West Marine in Daytona and was told only a main dealer could program in the MMSI, Pat did it when installing it all. The biggest faff was not that but getting the Garmin and Raymarine stuff talking to each other (instruments and autopilot) mix of nmea 2000, seatalk and nmea 0183

Evening,

I'm on the hunt for the Garmin AIS 600 setup software, got the FTDI drivers and tried accessing with ProAIS2, tried all sorts of baud rates on the com port, and I can see some sentences appearing, but guess i need the Config software to successfully speak to Garmin product!

If anyone still has this it would be greatly appreciated! be warned I shall try to PM a few of you in this thread!

Regards

DC

:D

be warned that you most likely CANNOT PM anyone, I tried to PM you with links to the files, couldn't :(

probably need a few more posts before "unlocking" this feature?

This thread has been running for some years now. I'll just dip my toe in and see what happens:

I've just bought a second hand refurbished (factory reset) Garmin AIS 600 with all cables. It doesn't come with the CD that is needed to program my MMSI code & other details. Can anyone please help me with this? The setup is a one time run, so I would only need the software for a short while.

Please can someone sell me the Garmin AIS 600 setup CD?
Please can someone lend me the Garmin AIS 600 setup CD?
Please can someone send me a copy of the CDM20600.exe install file?
Please can someone direct me to a copy of the CDM20600.exe install file?

Any help would be much apreciated.

Dave

Dave,

suggest you post a few times (maybe 4 or 5 more posts) so that you are allowed to PM, then you PM me and I'll sent you a link to download the s/w, it's only a couple of MB...

cheers
