Hi ALL.... yes its IDIOT question time AGAIN !!!!..... am trying to install the above to "converse" with the vhf/dsc ... its a brand new unit so im making a bit of a bog of it.....ANYWAY ....the garmin does lots more "stuff" than my old raymarine 400 but the only "stuff" i INSIST it does, is to send the lat/long to said vhf.....PROBLEM... the vhf is NMEA 0183 (as apposed to 2000)..garmin does both so have set it to 0183... the wiring harness has loads of wires the thickness of a human hair .. power +/- obvious, have matched up the same colours as the raymarine to the vhf, purple and white but no talky yet !!!......afraid the "installation words" are as clear as mud or i cant see the wood for the trees (again).. THOUGHTS PLEASE rude or otherwise ... thanks in advance..

Steve,

should be fairly straightforward.
Make sure you don't mix your ins and outs and you probably need to configure the particular out of the garmin to the speed that the vhf likes...
you sure the NMEA0183 out of the garmin has the same colours to the vhf in??? I'd be very impressed!

cheers

V.

Steve, you have to set the Garmin so that it will talk to the VHF. It will not do so without your instruction. Can't remember where, but this is in the settings somewhere. Had to do the same with my 520 on the Sunline.

Any Help, not sure...

there are several options, You need to set to nmea rather than garmin transfer protocol (default) the blue in nmea1 and can be set to out or in if I remember the baud rate should be the same as the vhf wants , there is an option somewhere to turn the nmea on and off default may be off, the right sentences need to be output there is a choice and the vhf need the right ones.

configure-communications nmea 0183 setup has to be changed
try switching between
port1
port2 and
nmea std / high speed and you will find one of them lets vhf read the plotters sat position.
obviously the wiring throws you a bit but once correct the adjustments should start the sharing info.
had this problem putting a 750s in too but had to go back to my 555s to see what the difference was as I had that already set up.
